A lot of things happen to us as we age, but changes in our skin can be the most noticeable, especially on our face. When we get past a certain age, our body starts slowing down its production of collagen, which can lead to sagging skin.

At Southlake Plastic Surgery we love helping our patients put their best faces forward. When it comes to restoring your facial structure and volume, Sculptra in Dallas is an effective treatment! Sculptra partners with your body’s natural process to not only fill in hollow areas, but to actually boost your body’s production of collagen over the long term.

Who is a candidate for Sculptra in Dallas?

Scheduling a consultation with a trained provider is one of the best ways to discover what options are available for you. To put it simply, if you’re unhappy with how you look due to a loss of facial volume, you are probably a good candidate for Sculptra.

If we’re being honest, anyone over the age of 30 can be a candidate for Sculptra. After 30 is when our body not only slows down its production of collagen, but actually starts producing enzymes that break down the collagen you already have. But never fear, that’s why we have so many options for helping restore and extend your youthful glow, including Sculptra!

What is Sculptra in Dallas?

Our highly trained providers inject Sculptra into your skin with a technique similar to neuromodulators (like Botox) and dermal fillers. It uses a poly-L-lactic acid to help rebuild your skin from the inside out.

How does Sculptra work?

Your skin is built out of several layers. Its two main building blocks are collagen and elastin, two proteins that give your skin its shape and structure. These proteins live in the dermal layer of your skin, so they can’t be reached through topical, surface level treatments.

As your body stops producing collagen, there is less volume in those lower layers of your skin, which can cause it to sag and droop, giving you a gaunt appearance. Sculptra temporarily fills these areas due to the saline that is added when injected and then stimulates your body to produce more collagen. Because of the new collagen produced, your skin quality also appears brighter and clearer.

What is poly-L-lactic acid?

Poly-L-lactic acid is a chemical that is found in many beauty products, particularly in anti-aging creams. It’s FDA approved for improving facial volume via injection and is scientifically proven to stimulate collagen and elastin growth.

By injecting poly-l-lactic directly into the secondary layers of the skin, we’re able to fight the signs of aging at their source! Topical collagen treatments aren’t as effective because they take longer to penetrate the surface of your skin.

What does Sculptra do?

Sculptra works in two ways. When it is immediately injected into the skin, it fills the hollow spaces. As your body processes the acid, it causes your body to produce new collagen and new skin cells, restoring volume that was previously lost. Fillers don’t stimulate collagen production and that leads to shorter term results. Instead, fillers literally fill the lost volume with hyaluronic acid that typically lasts 12-18 months.

The Benefits of Sculptra in Dallas

Sculptra can be used on several areas of the face and neck. It can even be used to create lift in the buttocks!

Where Sculptra can be used:

  • Cheeks
  • Temples
  • Chin and jawline
  • Nose
  • Buttocks
  • Hands

Non-invasive

Unlike surgery, Sculptra doesn’t require a lengthy recovery or any incisions. It’s safe for all skin types and the treatment can be completed in as little as 30 minutes!

Long lasting results

Because Sculptra stimulates your body’s natural collagen production, your results will continue to improve over time. They will appear gradually, so while you’ll be looking better, no one will be able to tell you’ve had any “work” done. Plus, they will last up to 2 years!

Combination with other treatments

One of the great benefits of injectables like Sculptra is that they can be combined with other procedures to give you fuller facial rejuvenation. During your consultation, your provider can discuss which combinations make the most sense based on your desired results.

For some patients we use a combination of Sculptra, dermal fillers, Botox or lasers! It truly depends on what changes you as the patient are hoping to see.

Is Sculptra better than fillers?

While Sculptra and fillers both treat similar things, there are some key differences to consider when choosing one or the other. Fillers do exactly what they’re name says, they fill. Then your body processes the substance and the results fade after a few months. Sculptra temporarily fills and then encourages your body to produce more volume naturally.

While Sculptra’s results are longer lasting than fillers, filler results are more immediate and only require one round of injections. However, fillers will need maintenance treatments more often.

Is Sculptra better than Botox?

Botox and Sculptra are similar, but are meant to treat somewhat different aspects of facial aging. Both target wrinkles and both are injections, but the methods are distinct. Botox is a neuromodulator used to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles, whereas Sculptra replaces volume loss. When the volume is restored, your skin experiences less sagging and this can lead to fewer wrinkles as your skin is tightened.

The results from Botox are sooner than Sculptra, but Sculptra provides longer lasting results.

Sometimes it’s not a question of whether you should get Botox vs Sculptra. These treatments can often be used in tandem to give more optimal results. For example, Sculptra cannot be used to provide lip flips, but Botox can!

How does Sculptra in Dallas compare to laser treatments?

When it comes to Sculptra vs laser, you’re once again looking at two different angles for the same problem. Sculptra works by replacing lost volume, while  lasers work by tightening loose skin.

Of course, lasers have many other uses beyond skin tightening. Laser resurfacing is great for addressing skin pigmentation issues, acne, sun damage, and more! Sculptra cannot help solve any of those skin issues, so laser and Sculptra are both great to include in your treatment plan.

What is the process for Sculptra in Dallas?

At Southlake Plastic Surgery we take the consultation process seriously. We know that every patient is unique and has their own individual aesthetic goals. Our team develops personalized treatment plans for each patient.

Consultation

During your consultation, your provider will get to know you and your medical history as well as answer any questions you have about the Sculptra process. They’ll also provide you with recommendations for any combinable treatments based on your desired results.

Treatment

When you arrive for your treatment, you’ll be invited to sit back and relax during your injections. Although, if you’re receiving the Sculptra butt lift you will be laying face down.

Your provider will apply a local anesthetic at the injection site and then inject Sculptra at the predetermined areas.

Sculptra treatments are packaged in a series of 3 sessions, about 30 to 45 days apart, in order to get the best desired results. Before you leave the office you’ll be instructed to massage the injection sites vigorously several times a day for the first 5 days following your treatment. This helps keep the Sculptra evenly dispersed so that your collagen develops across the treatment area, not just in some spots but not in others.

Next Steps

Sculptra immediately fills the areas, but this will fade in a couple of days as your body absorbs the poly-L-lactic acid. After the acid is absorbed, your body will start producing more collagen. Sculptra results improve over time, with full results visible within 4 to 6 weeks, and especially after the final injection.

As with many cosmetic procedures, your results are directly impacted by your lifestyle choices. Things like regular at-home skin care, limiting sun exposure, healthy diet, and getting enough sleep can enhance the health of your skin and prolong your Sculptra results.
