Day Before Surgery Instructions
Instructions for Medications You Already Take (If Applicable)
Please TAKE these medications the morning of surgery:
- Beta blockers (labetalol, metoprolol, propranolol, atenolol, etc.)
- Calcium channel blockers (amlodipine, diltiazem, verapamil, nifedipine, etc.)
- Hydralazine
- Heartburn/acid reflux medications (omeprazole [Prilosec®], lansoprazole [Prevacid®], pantoprazole
[Protonix®], etc.) - Levothyroxine (Synthroid®)
- Seizure medications (carbamazepine [Tegretol®], valproic acid/divalproex [Depakote®], levetiracetam
[Keppra®], lamotrigine [Lamictal®], etc.) - Cholesterol medications (statins) (atorvastatin [Lipitor®], rosuvastatin [Crestor®], simvastatin [Zocor®],
pravastatin [Pravachol®], etc.) - Inhalers: Use your inhaler(s) as you normally would on the morning of surgery and bring them with
you to the surgery center.
Please DO NOT TAKE these medications the night before OR morning of surgery:
- ACE inhibitors (lisinopril, benazepril, enalapril, captopril, etc.)
- ARBs (losartan, valsartan, olmesartan, candesartan, etc.)
- Diuretics (furosemide/Lasix®, hydrochlorothiazide [HCTZ], spironolactone, etc.)
- Tricyclic (TCA) antidepressants (amitriptyline, doxepin, etc.)
- MAOI antidepressants (phenelzine/Nardil®, isocarboxazid/Marplan®, tranylcypromine/Parnate®, etc.)
- Oral diabetes medications (metformin, glyburide, glipizide, etc.)
- Any other medications your provider instructed you to hold during your pre-op visit.
