diVa Lunch and Learn

There is now a safe and research-proven way to treat the symptoms faced by many women who have experienced a decline in their vaginal health. As a woman ages, there are many changes that her body naturally experiences, the most common of which include childbirth and menopause, though there are other events that may also reduce the amount of estrogen she produces. That reduction in estrogen can greatly affect the vaginal walls, causing them to become thinner, dryer, and even inflamed, which often significantly diminishes vaginal function. These common events include hysterectomy, breast-feeding, and chemotherapy treatments.

For women who have experienced childbirth, the damage that has been done to the vaginal canal and the tissue surrounding it because of stretching during the birthing process is largely repaired naturally; but the tissue often never fully returns to the same pre-birth state. The vaginal walls, the perineum, and the tissue surrounding these areas have all been compromised—a fact which bears greatly on vaginal health as a whole. These changes can cause a number of problems for women: pain with sexual intercourse, urinary incontinence when sneezing or coughing, and painful vaginal dryness.

diVa laser vaginal therapy can greatly change the way that these women feel about themselves physically, improving their sex lives, and restoring their own self-confidence. Through the cutting edge Hybrid Fractional Laser technology employed by the diVa® treatment, a trained medical provider will be able to specifically tailor each treatment to suit the needs of their patient in addressing their personal issues regarding intimate health in only 5 minutes.

During each diVa laser therapy session, the diVa® uses two types of laser therapy (hybrid fractional laser therapy) that combine to work in synergy, delivering both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to the treatment area to achieve customizable results. As the layers of the vaginal walls are deeply resurfaced by the first laser, it also replaces them with layers of healthy new tissue. Heat from the second laser is used to stimulate the layers of collagen in the tissue, which will help strengthen and revitalize the vaginal tissue. Unlike older vaginal therapies, the diVa® laser vaginal therapy has been specially designed with a motorized control system that is extremely accurate to ensure that the length of each treatment and the results are uniform and consistent, and that, regardless of the health provider, the results are the same.

The diVa® system uses a single-use Strengthened Quartz Dilator (SQD) which has a quartz tip that expands and flattens vaginal tissue while the tip itself remains stationary, resulting in treatment that is uniform in its effects. A hand piece attached to the tip rotates through the area being treated and delivers pulses through new sections of quartz, which help ensure the efficiency of the laser. Because each SQD is used only once, there is little risk for cross-contamination, and the downtime between treatments is shortened as well.

The total treatment time including numbing with local anesthetic is approximately 30 minutes, with the actual procedure taking only 3-5 minutes. No general anesthesia is necessary, since a local anesthetic cream is used to numb the area and reduce discomfort during the procedure itself. Women may experience some spotting or slight cramping for the next 2-3 days, and nothing may be inserted into the vaginal canal for 48 hours. All other activities may be resumed immediately after treatment. Optimal results are achieved after a series of 2-3 treatments scheduled about a month apart, and yearly maintenance of one treatment will maintain the results.
