Coolsculpting and Sofwave after Weight Loss

You’ve probably heard of Coolsculpting but still not quite sure how it works. CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved nonsurgical fat reduction treatment that targets areas of stubborn fat that is resistant to diet or exercise. CoolSculpting freezes the fat cells beneath the skin using specific applicators placed over areas of pinchable fat. These frozen cells then die (cryolipolysis) and leave your body through the lymphatic system. CoolSculpting differs from liposuction in that the results are seen in 3-6 months due to the gradual death of fat cells rather than immediately as is seen with liposuction. However, unlike liposuction, a Coolsculpting procedure does not involve anesthesia, needles, or downtime. You can treat the same areas that you would have liposuction done including the waistline (muffin top), love handles, inner and outer thighs, belly fat, men’s pectoral area (man boobs), upper arms, double chin, the tops of the knees, bra fat, and back fat.

Coolsculpting is not a weigh loss procedure, but many people who have lost weight on GLP-1 drugs or semaglutide medication have found that they still have pockets of fat that they cannot get rid of. If you have had problems with certain body areas, you most likely will still see those same pockets of fat after weight loss. This is where Coolsculpting Elite is highly effective and more efficient than liposuction since it targets specific (and sometimes smaller) areas of unwanted fat. At Southlake Plastic Surgery Med Spa, we use the newest Coolsculpting Elite machine, and our providers are advance trained and highly experienced in this proven fat reduction procedure.

In addition with weight loss and fat reduction, you may begin to experience skin laxity—loose skin— on the face and jowels, arms, and stomach. Sofwave is a great procedure to pair with Coolsculpting by stimulating your own body’s collagen and elastin using Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB™) technology using FDA-cleared ultrasound technology. Sofwave delivers energy precisely to the mid-dermis (the skin’s collagen-rich layer) without damaging the outer layer of skin.

Learn more about Sofwave

Both Coolsculpting Elite and Sofwave are safe for all skin types since they do not damage the outer skin. Interested in one or both of these procedures? You can schedule a complimentary consultation where our expert providers will discuss your goals, evaluate your skin and body concerns, and determine if you’re a good candidate for CoolSculpting, Sofwave, or a combination of both.

Next, we map out a customized treatment plan, including the order of treatments, how many sessions you may need, and what kind of results to expect. Most patients begin with CoolSculpting first, allowing time for fat reduction to occur before assessing skin tightening needs.

CoolSculpting sessions typically take 35 to 75 minutes per area, depending on the number of applicators used. The treatment is generally comfortable, with a cold sensation followed by numbness. Afterward, you may experience temporary redness, swelling, or tingling.  Sofwave sessions usually take about 45 to 60 minutes, and involve a warming sensation as ultrasound energy penetrates the skin. Built-in cooling technology keeps the surface comfortable, and most people return to their day immediately.
