The new collagen and elastin proteins need time, sometimes up to 12 weeks, before they have a noticeable effect on your skin. After you receive Sofwave, you can expect to see ongoing improvements in the 3-month period after your treatment. However, some patients begin experiencing improvements in their loose skin within a week after their treatment session. Factors sch as age, genetics, lifestyle, and skincare habits will affect how quickly you will see results and how long your results will last.
There are very few side effects. At most, you might experience some redness or lingering heat immediately after your treatment session, but those should resolve themselves within a few hours of your session.
There are a few contraindications, which is why we require you to undergo an initial consultation before scheduling a Sofwave session. Some contraindications include having an open wound or infection in the treatment are, having active acne or cold sores in the treatment area, being pregnant, breastfeeding, having certain skin conditions, having active cancer, or having any electronic or metal implants, especially in the treatment area.
If possible, when you arrive at your appointment, your skin is free of any makeup, lotions, or other products. Also avoid retinoids or sun exposure (we do not want to treat sunburned skin!) for 3 days prior to treatment. We ask that you avoid injectable treatments in the treatment area for at least 2 weeks before your appointment.
Patients will feel a warm sensation on the skin and then it peaks to a hot sensation for less than a second before it immediately goes away. You can discuss options to reduce the feeling with your provider if your skin is particularly sensitive.
