Suck away unwanted fat with liposuction in Dallas and Fort Worth

Many patients in the Dallas and Fort Worth area turn to surgical options like liposuction to get rid of unwanted or stubborn fat areas that regular diet and exercise can’t quite knock out.

At Southlake Plastic Surgery, we have helped hundreds of clients kick that ugly, unwanted fat out the door through liposuction, and we are happy to provide that same excellent service to you to make you feel like a new person.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes diet and exercise resistant deposits of fat in specific areas of the body. We place small incisions (typically less than a quarter of an inch) in inconspicuous locations near the problematic fat deposits you want removed. A fluid, called tumescent solution, is placed into each area to minimize bleeding and reduce postoperative pain. We then remove fat cells using small suction tubes called cannulas.

While useful to remove unwanted fat, we do not consider liposuction in Dallas and Fort Worth a weight loss procedure. Instead, think of it as a way to contour the areas that you can’t reach with diet and exercise alone.

Liposuction in Dallas and Fort Worth should be considered by patients who…

  • Are healthy males or females
  • Are close to their desired weight
  • Are already on a good nutrition and exercise program

Frequently asked questions about liposuction

What results can I expect?

Liposuction in Dallas and Fort Worth is not an immediate solution to unwanted fat, though some improvement is noted immediately and in the first few weeks after surgery. Your overlying skin has to shrink and smooth over the body’s new shape following fat removal, so final results can be expected 6 to 9 months after the procedure.

What is the recovery time?

Like any surgery, liposuction in Dallas and Fort Worth comes with some recovery downtime

You will have minor bruising, swelling and uneven skin contour after surgery
You will wear a compression garment 24/7 for two weeks and then 12 hours on/off for the next two weeks.
By 8 to 10 days after the procedure, the bruising should fade. Swelling can last for 6 to 8 weeks.
By 9 months, we consider you fully healed and we take your “after” photos.

Will it hurt?

We don’t necessarily consider liposuction to be a “painful” procedure, but you will have bruises and some areas can remain tender for up to 6 weeks after your surgery. Our surgeons perform the procedure under general anesthesia as well, and we control initial discomfort through oral medications.

What areas does liposuction treat?

We can perform liposuction nearly anywhere fat is stored. Examples are:

  • Abdomen
  • Buttocks
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Knees
  • Neck
  • Chin

Why choose us for your liposuction needs?

There are many types of liposuction procedures out there, and Dr. Mark E. Mason has experience in just about all of them. Dr. Mason employs the SAFE Lipo technique on his patients, a technique developed by his friend and colleague, Dr. Simeon Wall, Jr.

SAFE Lipo is a technique that sculpts the treatment areas by removing fat while equalizing the thin layer of fat just below the skin. This improves the chances of having a smooth, even contour of the skin’s surface after healing.

Dr. Mason also uses VASER liposuction, a technique that involves treating fat cells with ultrasonic waves before suction removes them. This method is best for certain areas of the body where the fat is very dense and difficult to remove.
