PRP Hair Treatment Near You | Southlake Plastic Surgery

Southlake Plastic Surgery

At Southlake Plastic Surgery & Med Spa, we take hair loss seriously. We know that whether you’re experiencing hair thinning or complete hair loss, it can affect your confidence, self-esteem, and overall well-being.

Traditional hair loss treatments often come with lengthy downtime or a visible scar. But if you’re searching for a PRP hair treatment near you, you’re likely ready to try something new for your hair loss treatment. Before you do, let the experts offer you some vital information so you can be as informed as possible before booking an appointment.

PRP | An overview

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a substance derived from your own blood, and it’s what your body naturally creates on its own while healing a wound! It’s been used for years in science and medicine to assist with accelerated healing and cell regeneration. Doctors and scientists strategically inject your body’s own PRP into wounds and injuries to amplify those healing effects!

In the medical aesthetics world, we’ve begun taking advantage of the countless benefits PRP has to offer! Studies have shown that when we inject PRP into the skin or scalp, it accelerates collagen production and cell regeneration, offering skin rejuvenation and hair revitalization to men and women experiencing thinning hair or baldness.

Traditional methods for hair rejuvenation

Many of our patients seeking PRP hair treatment near them have looked into or even tried traditional hair loss treatments such as hair transplants, or “plugs.” During a hair graft or hair transplant, a surgeon removes hair follicles from the part of your scalp that has healthy hair growth. The surgeon then implants those follicles into the treatment areas.

Historically, there have been many downfalls to hair transplants, including long downtime, visible scarring, and an unnatural-looking hairline. While we’ve used these treatments for decades in the cosmetic industry, they are falling out of favor for new innovative technologies, like PRP for hair regeneration!

PRP | An alternative hair treatment near you

PRP is a completely different experience from a hair transplant! These minimally invasive treatments offer all the benefits of traditional hair growth methods with virtually none of the downfalls. Learn more about PRP for hair restoration from our lead injector, Lindsay:

What to expect

Consultation

The first step to any treatment or surgery at SPS is an in-depth consultation. This time allows us to truly get to know your unique needs and concerns, ask and answer questions about the treatment, and come up with a customized treatment plan to meet your needs.

During your PRP hair treatment consultation, you’ll sit down with one of our highly trained providers, who will go over the procedure details. We may take a close look at your hair and scalp and offer recommendations for complementary hair loss treatments.

Blood draw

The next step in your PRP hair treatment is a simple blood draw. Our highly trained medical staff will draw a few vials of blood at our office. Then, we’ll spin the blood in a centrifuge to extract the plasma and platelets from the blood. This is what we’ll use for the injections!

PRP injections

Once the PRP is separated, we’ll load it into syringes and begin the process of PRP hair treatment. For those worried about pain during the procedure, we offer topical numbing agents as well as ProNox or “laughing gas” for anxiety management.

Your expert provider will carefully and strategically inject the PRP into the areas of the scalp struggling with growth. For some, this may be a very targeted area, like the temples or the crown of the head. For others, it may be all over the scalp. Typically, the treatment lasts anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes.

Downtime

One of the major benefits of a PRP hair treatment versus a traditional hair transplant is that there is virtually zero downtime. You can immediately return to your normal activities, including showering and washing your hair as usual. We just recommend treating the scalp gently and avoiding adding color or highlights to your hair 2 weeks before and after the treatment.

Follow up

During your initial consultation we’ll discuss how many treatment sessions we recommend for you to achieve desired results. Usually, we recommend at least 3 treatment sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, and then a 4th session 4 months after the last treatment. After those initial sessions, patients enjoy thicker, fuller hair for many years with only annual maintenance sessions. Following your treatment, we’ll book you for your next PRP hair treatment.

Results

Because PRP affects the growth cycle of your hair, you may begin to see new growth in as little as 3 weeks. Most patients begin to see full results about 3 to 6 months following the end of the initial series of treatments.

Other PRP applications

PRP is an exciting treatment method for many reasons, especially because there are so many applications for it! At Southlake Plastic Surgery & Med Spa, we can use PRP to treat:

We can also apply PRP topically after a micro wounding treatment like microneedling for full facial rejuvenation. We call this treatment the vampire facial!

Commonly asked questions about PRP hair treatment near you

What are the side effects of PRP?

Fortunately, there are virtually no side effects associated with PRP injections for hair loss! Because the injection substance comes from your own blood, there is no risk of incompatibility or an allergic reaction. You may experience slight soreness or redness at the injection site following the treatment, but that should subside within a couple of hours.

Who is a good candidate for PRP hair treatments?

PRP treatments for hair loss are ideal for:

  • Men and women who experience substantial thinning of the hair on the scalp
  • Men experiencing male pattern baldness
  • Those patients with Androgenic Alopecia

Who is NOT a good candidate for PRP scalp injections?

Because PRP utilizes your own blood, patients with any disease of the blood should not undergo the treatment.

Are PRP injections painful?

While we’d love to say any injection is pain-free, it does involve the use of needles, which is more tolerable for some patients than others. Most patients undergo the treatment very well without topical pain relief! However, we offer multiple options for pain and anxiety relief during treatment, including ProNox!

What are the instructions for after a PRP hair treatment?

Luckily, the restrictions following a PRP hair treatment in Southlake are much less than those following a traditional hair grafting treatment. There are still some instructions we recommend you follow to ensure optimal results.

Be gentle with your scalp and hair for 2 to 3 days following the treatment, and do not prod, massage, or use any product on the scalp. We recommend avoiding saunas and swimming, sun and heat exposure, and vigorous exercise for up to 3 days following treatment.
