Light-based facial rejuvenation in Southlake

Photofacial, also known as IPL or Intense Pulsed Light therapy, is a facial rejuvenation treatment used to treat skin conditions associated with aging, active lifestyles, and sun damage. BroadBand Light by Sciton (BBL™) is the most powerful IPL device on the market and can provide dermal renewal, more effective hair reduction, and treat pigmented lesions, vascular lesions, and actually helps reverse the aging process of skin cells! BBL uses broad-spectrum visible and infrared light to selectively heat layers of skin to  target and eliminate undesired pigmentation, redness, and other unwanted skin conditions. The Sciton system delivers a combination of flexibility, patient comfort, and efficiency for exceptional results.

Forever Young BBL™ is clinically proven not only to correct sun damage but also to prevent the signs of aging skin by delivering BroadBand Light to the epidermis and dermis, stimulating improvements in skin tone, texture, elasticity, and pigmentation with visible, long-lasting results after just one treatment. There is no patient downtime; patients may experience redness and slight peeling or flaking after treatment. In a retrospective study*, 15 patients ages 38 to 69 received at least one Forever Young BBL treatment per year for 5 to 11 years. Then, based on pre- and post-treatment photos, about 500 evaluators estimated the age of each patient. The study found that patients’ skin looked about 10 years younger than its actual age due to improvement in sun damage, wrinkles, and other signs of aging skin! Forever Young BBL is not just an aesthetic treatment for existing skin damage. It can also be a preventive regimen, delaying the skin’s aging process.

For patients who want to take a more aggressive approach to facial rejuvenation, Southlake Plastic Surgery & Med Spa offers the Halo™ Hybrid Fractional Laser treatment. Hybrid Fractional Lasers offer a customized treatment by providing maximum ablative results without the downtime of other ablative treatments such as CO2 lasers of the past. Halo has the ability to provide separate treatments to the epidermis and dermis in the same treatment spot. This fractional treatment allows the epidermis to heal quickly as long as the dermis remains intact due to the hybrid nature of the Sciton Halo™ device. Halo™ helps to improve overall skin tone and texture in addition to significant removal of discoloration, reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduced pore size, skin reflectivity, and glow. During treatment, a topical anesthetic is applied to the face (and neck and shoulders if treating those areas as well) to reduce the sensation during the procedure. For the first 24 hours, patients should protect their skin from light and heat, and it is often described as feeling like a mild sunburn. After 24 hours, makeup can be applied. Over the next 3-5 days, microscopic epidermal necrotic debris (called MENDs) will appear on the surface of the skin which can look and feel like sandpaper. After all the MENDs have sloughed off, the skin surface appears rosy with the Halo “glow.”

Are there other laser therapies that offer facial rejuvenation?

Other more ablative procedures can deliver dramatic facial rejuvenation in Southlake, such as the ProFractional Laser treatment to address deep scarring. These treatments result in more downtime (2-3 weeks) because of the ablative nature of the laser, but they are very effective in skin resurfacing for patients with harsher skin conditions.
