Who Are Arm Lifts For?

An arm lift, also called brachioplasty, is for individuals with excess skin and/or fat on their arms, such as those who have experienced a significant amount of weight loss. Ideal arm lift candidates have tried exercise and diet to reduce the appearance of lax arms and have not been able to achieve their desired results.

What Happens During an Arm Lift Surgery?

An arm lift is typically performed under general anesthesia, so you’ll be fully relaxed throughout the procedure. It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to complete this surgery. Here are the primary steps in an arm lift:

1. Incision

Your surgeon will begin by making a covert incision along the back or inner side of your arm, depending on your anatomy.

2. Liposuction

Next, your surgeon will remove surplus fat with the goal of creating a more contoured look.

3. Tissue tightening and skin removal

Depending on your condition, your surgeon may tighten and reshape the supportive tissue there using internal sutures. They will also trim away any leftover skin.

4. Closing incisions

Lastly, your surgeon may insert temporary drainage tubes to prevent fluid build-up, close your incisions, and cover them with bandages.

What Is Arm Lift Recovery Like?

After an arm lift, you will have follow-up appointments to remove your drainage tubes and sutures as well as check on your healing process. Your activity level will be limited the first 2 weeks after an arm lift, particularly when it comes to arm motion.

It usually takes 2 weeks for our patients to feel fully recovered. You can expedite your recovery duration by following your provider’s instructions carefully. This may include wearing a compression garment on your arms.
