Scar Treatments in Southlake, TX

Unless you’re Superman, scars are an inevitable part of life. We’ve all taken a fall, gotten a cut, or experienced a pimple or lesion that left a permanent reminder in its wake.

When it comes to plastic surgery, you unfortunately don’t get to choose whether you’ll have a scar—it’ll be there and it’s one of our patients’ biggest concerns.

The good news? Southlake Plastic Surgery & Medspa in Southlake, TX has your scar concerns completely covered! First, our renowned Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Mark Mason & Dr. Dinah Wan, are experts in carefully choosing the least-noticeable scar placements and they close the skin with such care that scarring is minimal.

Second, we offer each plastic surgery patient, especially those who undergo a Tummy Tuck, breast procedure, or facial surgery, complimentary scar gel, advice on scar care, and a free laser scar treatment to minimize the appearance of the scar!

What scar care does Southlake Plastic Surgery recommend?

After a plastic surgery procedure, all Southlake patients can meet with one of our providers to receive a free scar gel and go over proper post-surgery care for the incision area.

Since no two patients, or their scars, are exactly the same, below are some general recommendations to minimize scarring following plastic surgery (Keep in mind your Southlake Plastic Surgery provider will provide you with the specifics for your unique situation)

  • We will instruct you on when to begin regularly massaging the scar. Gentle massage with a Biocorneum scar cream reduces the inflammation that can lead to poor scarring and aids the skin’s ability to heal itself.
  • You need to avoid exposing a surgical scar to the sun like the plague. Double up on protection by using high SPF sunscreen on the area and covering the scar with a physical barrier, like clothing or a bandage when you know your scar may be exposed to the sun.
  • Abstain from smoking and alcohol for at least 2 to 3 months. Smoking increases your risk of poor scarring (plus causes wrinkles, ew!) and alcohol dehydrates you, diminishing your skin’s healing ability. That being said, drink lots of water!
  • Consider scar treatments at our medspa!

Which medspa treatments can help minimize surgical scars?

Laser scar treatments are excellent for significantly improving the appearance of a surgical scar. In fact, we’re so confident in this we offer all surgery patients their first laser scar treatment for free!

At Southlake Plastic Surgery & Medspa, we have 4 state-of-the-art laser devices that each offer amazing scar-minimizing benefits.

Halo® Hybrid Fractional Laser

The Halo laser by Sciton is the world’s first laser that uses both ablative and non-ablative lasers to maximize results and reduce recovery time. Depending on the unique characteristics of your scar, we may use this laser to gently remove top layers of skin and kickstart collagen production to give you a smaller, less pigmented scar.

MicroLaserPeel®

This advanced laser treatment uses an Erbium-YAG laser with a precise ablative wavelength that allows us to tailor the scar treatment to our patient’s goals. The MicroLaserPeel targets and eliminates dark pigmentation and clears away the upper damaged layers of skin to reveal fresh skin underneath.

ProFractional® Laser

This laser device by Sciton uses an Erbium-YAG laser beam to “aerate” your skin tissues. Using the ProFractional laser, we can offer patients deep collagen stimulation while also removing hyperpigmentation and irregular texture in the skin.

BBL™ Photofacial

Similar to the above lasers, our Forever Young BBL™ IPL device by Sciton also emits focused light energy to treat a range of skin concerns, especially scars. The key difference between BBL & the other laser treatments is that BBL emits broad-spectrum visible light rather than a beam to target and eliminate pigmentation and prompt collagen production to minimize scars. Best of all, long-term studies at Stanford University have shown that regular BBL photofacials actually change the DNA structure of skin cells to slow down the aging process!
